We had a fun six year old birthday party at our church's Family Life Center. It was the week it had been snowing so the kids were crazy with all of their extra energy from being stuck inside all week. But it was the perfect place for that. They were able to run and scream and have a great time. Here are a few pictures from that fun day.

The Games & Relays in Action
The T Rex Cake (designed in detail by Bennett)
This is the funniest part, while they sing to Bennett!!
Beyond just his birthday and the party, there's been alot of great things going on with Bennett lately.
The most obvious thing about Bennett right now is just how excellent he is at learning. He's always been bright and picked things up easily but it just seems that he is progressing by leaps and bounds lately. He is reading unbelievably well, like 60-70 page chapter books on his own and shorter books constantly. He gets to bring home special books from school that are at a higher level and he loves that. He cried today after school because something got mixed up and he didn't get to bring a book home. He tells me "Mom I just love reading". Oh that just melts my heart!!!
And really he is not as strong in reading as he is at math. Tonight he amazed Shane and me at the dinner table and all we could do is laugh. Shane was telling the boys about Alabama getting to the finals of the NIT tournament and then was trying to explain the progression from 32 teams down to the final 2. He told Bennett, there are 32 teams in the first round and 2 teams play at a time, so how many games are there in the first round. And almost without hesitation, Bennett said 16. He is in kindergarten and he is dividing in his head!! We were blown away! When we asked how he knew that, he said he just thought about it and he knew.
Beyond his school smarts, which we are so proud of him on, he is just such a sweet boy. He is kind to his friends, he shares so well, he cheers as loud for the other kids when they score a goal in soccer as he cheers when he scores one himself, he helps Noah out in so many ways and looks for ways to teach him new things, he gets so excited about new adventures especially recent camping and hiking excursions he's done with Shane. And overall, he is just fun to be around. We love the occasional night when Noah is at Grammie & Papa's and we can have a game night (with games that are hard for Noah to concentrate long enough to play). We've been known to stay up way past bedtime all playing and laughing. Fun times!
I know I am totally bragging on my own child, but truly as most people do I'm sure, I think my boys are just the best. And I hope one day Bennett will have the chance to read this and see what a great kid I knew him to be when he was just a little 6 year old. The days are long but the years are short...time is flying and I find it hard to believe he's already six years old. I think this is one of the best ages so far & I love that Bennett so much!!
